Admissions to the Pharm.D Programme at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj University are open for the Academic Session 2026–2027

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj University, is prepared for conducting admissions to the Pharm.D Programme for the Academic Session 2026-27 in accordance with the provisions of the Pharm.D Regulations, 2008 framed under Section 10 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948 (8 of 1948) as approved by the Government of India and notified by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).

Candidates seeking admission to Pharm.D shall have:

  • Passed 10+2 / equivalent examination with:
    • Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects
    • Mathematics or Biology as an optional subjec
  • Passed Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm.)
  • from a PCI-approved institution
  • Any other equivalent qualification approved by PCI.
Age Requirement:

Candidate should have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission.

Provided that there shall be reservation of seats for the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other Backward Classes in accordance with the instructions issued by the Central Government/State Government/Union Territory Administration as the case may be from time to time.

2. Admissions Committee: An Admissions Committee, chaired by a senior professor/ dean of faculty, shall overview the admission process and coordinate between the Admissions Department, Examination Cell and the CSMU School of Pharmacy to conduct entrance tests, interviews and a smooth admission process for the eligible candidates. Director Admissions shall be the Member-Secretary of the committee. The committee shall be approved by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor.

3. Admission Notification:The Director Admissions, by approval of the Admissions Committee, shall publish a notification of admission with all important information relevant to admission in the above programmes. Eligibility criteria, admission process and programme fees shall be clearly mentioned in this notification.

4. Admission Schedule:An admission schedule shall be published along with the admission notification, defining important dates such as dates of entrance examination and interview. The schedule may be changed only in exigencies such as natural calamities, previously unannounced holiday, or lack of eligible applications. In such cases, the dates may be changed and all applicants are to be notified of the same.

5. Applications: All applications for admission shall be submitted online through the University ERP system. All relevant supporting documents must be uploaded by the candidate in order to ascertain the eligibility for the applied programme. In case of incomplete applications, i.e. key documents pertaining to eligibility is unavailable, the application will be deemed invalid.

Scrutiny of Applications: The Admissions Committee shall scrutinize all applications in view of the eligibility criteria given above and all the relevant rules and regulation pertaining to it as defined by the PCI, UGC and the Govt. of Maharashtra.
NOTE: Admission in these programmes shall be based on merit only following all relevant guidelines of the PCI, UGC and the State Government.

After scrutiny of the applications and submitted documents, the Admission Committee shall prepare a list of candidates eligible for the applied programme and submit to the Admissions Department for call for entrance test.

7. Entrance Test: The Admissions Office, by approval of the Admissions Committee shall send call letter for entrance test to eligible candidates. The call letter must also include the instructions to the candidate for the entrance test. A written test with MCQ type paper will be held at the University Campus. Successful candidates in the test shall be called for interview. Syllabi, question papers and other details for the entrance test should be made available. The Controller of Examinations, shall conduct the entrance test and give the results to the Admission Committee following all norms and regulations pertaining to University Examinations. The Controller of Examinations shall form an Examination Conduction Committee for this purpose with one teacher of the University designated as Entrance Examination in-charge.

8. Paper Setting and Conduction of Entrance Test: The Controller of Examinations, in consultation with the Principal, School of Pharmacy, shall prepare a panel of at least 5 Paper Setters and place before the Vice-Chancellor for nomination of paper setter. The panel must contain at least 50% external paper setters. Two paper setters are to be nominated by the Vice-Chancellor in case one paper setter declines to oblige. Two (2) sets of Question Papers will be sought from a paper setter, along with answer keys. Any one set, randomly selected by the Examination In-charge shall be selected.

Since the paper pattern is MCQ-type, the answer sheets need not be sent to an examiner. Instead, 3 members of the Examination Conduction Committee shall check the papers and mark them as per the answer key. In case of any doubt, the original paper setter may be contacted.

9. Interviewee List: The Admission Committee, based on the result of the written test, shall prepare a list of interviewees as per the admission schedule. For this purpose, cut-off marks for eligibility to interview have to be determined by the Admissions Committee. The cut-off marks are to be determined in such a way that the number of interviewees is at least three (3) times the approved intake. The list should also contain candidates from all categories and domiciles in proportion to the approved intake laid down hereunder.
The Director Admissions shall ensure that all interviewees receive interview calls by email and telephone along with necessary instructions.

10. Interview: An interviewer panel shall be jointly created by the concerned Department and the Admission Committee and will be approved by the Vice-Chancellor. The Committee shall contain 2–3 faculty members from the concerned Department. The HOD shall chair the interview committee and may invite external members with the approval of the Vice-Chancellor. Each interviewee shall be evaluated on the basis of various criteria and an individual evaluation sheet shall be filled up for each candidate.

11. Merit Lists: A merit list shall be drawn from the results of the written test and the interview, with 70% weightage on the written test and 30% weightage on the interview. The merit list shall contain candidates from all categories as per the reservation policy of the Govt. of India and Govt. of Maharashtra and is laid down here:

On top the above, as per the Govt. of Maharashtra Acts

  1. 40% of the approved intakes are to be candidate domiciled in Maharashtra as per the Maharashtra Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2023 (Mah. Act No. VIII of 2024) Sec. 41(4)
  2. 30% of the approved intakes are to be female candidates as per the provisions in Government Resolution No. GEC-1000/ (123/2000)/ Tech. Edu. -1, dated 17th April, 2000

One merit list, prepared as per the above criteria and containing number of candidates as per the approved intake, will be published in the website. The merit list will be given to the admission office to send offer letters to the selected candidates.

12. Admission: Selected Candidates will report for admission to the Admissions Office in the allotted time till the last date of admissions and complete admission as follows:

  1. Verification of ALL original academic documents (certificates / marksheets etc.)
  2. Submission of required documents.
  3. Full Annual fee is required be paid by the candidate at the time of admission.

An Admission Checklist will be sent by email to selected candidates and is also available in the website.

The Admission Committee shall designate one verification officer amongst its members.

13. Vacant Seats: In case seats remain vacant after the last date of admission, waitlisted candidates will be called for admission on the basis of merit subject to fulfilment of reservation criteria. In this case, offer letter will be sent to deserving candidate(s) and a stipulated time will be given to take admission. However, if seat remains empty after this stipulated time and the merit list is exhausted of candidates with appropriate reservation criterion, empty seat(s) may be filled from other deserving candidates. In such case, transparent record of the process of consecutive admission offers, including offer letter copies and emails shall be kept.

Enrolment: After completion of Admission, an enrolment form shall be filled with all self-attested academic documents attached to it after admission.

14. Attendance and Academic Requirements

  1. Each academic year shall consist of not less than 200 working days.
  2. A candidate shall be required to maintain: Minimum 80% attendance separately in theory and practical subjects
  3. The candidate must satisfactorily complete the prescribed course requirements to become eligible for examinations.

15. Compliance:

All admissions shall be subject to:

  1. Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) Regulations
  2. Pharmacy Act, 1948
  3. University Rules and Regulations
  4. Government directives issued from time to time

Note:

  • If the final result of the qualifying examination is not available to the candidate at the time of admission, the candidate must submit a declaration in the prescribed pro-forma that he/she shall submit the result certificate and marksheet(s) for verification as soon as it is available to him/her. If the candidate fails to acquire the required minimum eligibility, their candidature shall be forfeited.
  • If any candidate is found to have falsified or misinterpreted any academic documents at any stage of admission, their candidature shall be forfeited.

Admission Process (Academic Year 2026-27)

1. Admission Notification: Admission Notification with Eligibility and the following information shall be published by the Director Admissions.

2. Application: Aspiring candidates may apply online at csmu.ac.in/pharmdadmission within the stipulated timeline by paying the application fees of Rs. 1500/-. All educational certificates and marksheets till the qualification examination must be uploaded in the online form.

3. Entrance Test: The Admissions Office shall send call letters for the entrance test to eligible candidates. A written test with MCQ type paper will be held at the University Campus. Successful candidates in the test shall be called for interview. Syllabi for the entrance test may be found on the website given above.
