Research and Development Cell

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj University upholds the practice of fundamental research and its application to societal needs to the highest ground. Our vision is to foster a culture of academic freedom, diversity of creative thinking, the pursuit of truth and the highest level of academic standards.

Research at CSMU addresses the challenges and opportunities that are shaping the future of India and the wider world. We are creating a continuum across science, engineering, humanities, business and the arts through interdisciplinary programmes that are underpinned by fundamental research and scholarship. Our research projects runs in collaboration with a number of premier universities, research institute, corporates and voluntary bodies, to address national research priorities and to maximise their impact on India’s social and economic development.

The University is in the process of establishing a viable research infrastructure; and building a community of researchers by partnering with well-known academic institutions, NGOs, corporate organizations, scientists and practising professionals. These resources would be used for the various UG and PG programmes.

The Research and Development Cell (R & D Cell) at CSMU provides a vigorous and highly visible research environment to its students with an objective to research culture and develop the habit of leadership within the University. The R&D Cell supports all kinds of scholarly activities like fundamental research, applied research and development contract research for government, non-government and international agencies.

Over the years the research efforts have expanded to include sponsored research and consultancy projects in multiple disciplines like in the field of Science, Engineering, Management, Law, Arts, Humanities etc.

The University continues to branch out its research vision with new faculty members/researchers and implementing new policies designed to improve the research infrastructure and also through new academic & industry collaborations. The University with their researchers and other teams continues to regularly welcome external partners who support our vision by sharing ideas, pooling resources, and collaborating on findings promoting innovative research.

Dean of Research and Development

Dr. Aurab Chakrabarty

M.Sc., Ph.D., PDRA-III

Dr. Aurab Chakrabarty has obtained M.Sc. (Physics) from IIT Guwahati with Institute Silver Medal. He obtained his Ph.D. from Trinity College Dublin in Computational Material Science and joined the Max-Planck Institute for Iron Research in Düsseldorf, Germany as a Research Assistant. He has also worked in Texas A&M University at Qatar and S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences at Kolkata as Research Associates and has 10 years of research experience in the area of computational study of structural metal alloys and has published 15 papers in international journals. He is currently involved in research on structural and electronic properties of intermetallic compounds and has an active collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, IIT Kharagpur. Dr. Chakrabarty had previously taught in the historic Victoria College in Kolkata and Nims University Rajasthan, Jaipur.
