Dr. Deepak Pawar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj University (CSMU), Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. He holds a Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University College of Arts and Social Sciences, Osmania University, Hyderabad. His doctoral research, completed in 2024, is titled “Ageing and Film: Representation of Older Characters in Hindi Commercial Cinema.”
Dr. Pawar is a UGC-NET Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) awardee (2018) and has also qualified UGC-NET (2017) and TS/AP State Eligibility Test (2015), making him eligible for lectureship across India. He possesses a strong academic foundation supported by professional media experience and interdisciplinary research exposure.
With more than a decade of teaching and industry engagement, Dr. Pawar brings a balanced pedagogical approach that integrates media theory, research, digital competencies, and hands-on production skills. His teaching areas include journalism (reporting, editing, and news writing), communication theory, advertising, public relations, media ethics and law, development communication, media management, research methodology, cultural and media studies, along with advanced courses in broadcast media and new media.
On the practical front, he has extensive experience teaching and mentoring students in filmmaking, television production, photography, video editing, radio production, print media, social media, and digital content creation. At CSMU, he also serves as a Ph.D. co-guide, Department Training and Placement Officer, and is responsible for the management of the television studio, contributing actively to academic administration and skill-based training.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Pawar worked as a Lecturer at Loyola Academy Degree and PG College, Hyderabad, where he taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in news reporting, online journalism, corporate communication, development communication, film studies, media laws and ethics, history of media, communication research, and methods. He played a key role in designing syllabi under the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) and contributed to the design of the MA (Journalism and Mass Communication) curriculum introduced in 2015.
